A busy working week and lack of sleep plus a giveaway!

To say the last week has been busy does not even begin to cover it.  Crazy days and nights, working, family time, the normal mundane jobs and so many exciting new opportunities are landing in my lap.  Some mornings have started at 4am, doing a few hours of work before the little people wake up, and some late nights editing photos and adding content to client sites.

You would think that would make me tired.  Well, I do fall into bed in a heap sometimes, but don’t often stay there for very long.

Sadly, I’m a terrible sleeper.  In fact, I’m worse than my children! Once I wake up, that’s it and  I can rarely get back to sleep.  I’ve tried meditating, counting backwards from 300 in 3′s (thanks for that one Oprah) and in the end, I just give up and get up.

It’s not such a bad thing because it means I’m achieving things.  Middle-of-the-night work seems to be my most productive.  No children vying for attention, no background noise and the ability to drink an entire cup of HOT tea!  It would be coffee, but our machine is too loud and I don’t want to risk the chance of waking anyone.  That would ruin everything.  The thought of instant doesn’t even enter my mind.

The downside of all of this is that my eyes give away the fact hat I’ve been up for hours.  The grey saggy bags can be covered with makeup (thank goodness) but the burning feeling and droopy hoods give me away every time.  Then I discovered a little secret.

When I was down in Melbourne for the Garnier Ambassadors program, the lovely team gave me a few products to try.  I’m loving them so far, and so is Miss8 (she loves the Sugar Scrub, even though she doesn’t need it)!  One thing that sat in the drawer until last week was the Caffeine Eye Roll On.  This stuff is MAGIC and I’m disappointed I didn’t try it sooner!  I roll some under my eyes when they’re feeling tired and glued shut, and there’s an immediate relief.  I’m not sure exactly how it works, but I can tell you that it’s pure gold for this busy working mum.  That heavy feeling is gone, and my eyes feel like they’ve had their own cup of glorious coffee all to themselves.  The slits that were my eyes a few moments ago, are suddenly wide open and ready to work.

My tiny eyes taking advantage of the caffeine

We all have crazy work schedules sometimes, and a little help is never a bad thing.  This new secret green stick of magic is my ‘helper’.  Would you like one for your make-up bag?

I spoke to the team at Garnier and asked if they’d share some of this busy-working-mums-magic-potion with you, my lovely readers, and they said YES!  So five of you can try this elixir for yourselves.

Simply comment below about your busiest work day and what gets you through.  Do you have a secret that can help the rest of us?

In the interest of disclosure: I was not paid by Garnier to write this, I have done so to share something that I really love.  They gifted me the sample, and are also doing the same for 5 lucky readers.

Once I did a 11 hour working day Hairdressing then went to work on on Masters thesis directly after. That was the longest day ever!1
On the way home I got pulled over for speeding – I was quite rude to be honest – he, however was lovely – I have no idea why.
Kindness from him made my day a easier to take but he wouldn’t have known as I didn’t cheer up till I wound up the window.

Secondly – coffee – you need coffee – ALWAYS.

That’s a long day – especially as you were on your feet for 11 hours!

I agree about the coffee, but having a lovely machine means I can no longer bring myself to drink instant. I’m spoilt you see :)

Too many busy days to pick one in particular, but the thing that gets me through is the thought of the big glass of wine at the end of it!!!!!

Busiest day of the week would have to be a Tuesday. Drop off at school, drop off at Lyndhurst, home then pickup Lyndhurst, pickup at school rush off to Wang for Swimming Lessions return home and answer emails, pack orders, unpack stock until the late night show with Larry where by which time my eyes have had enough! :-)

That’s a lot of kms in the car Eileen! You must sleep like a rock on a Tuesday night.

I agree with you, Kim, those quiet wee hours are the most productive. The one little thing I learnt early on in motherhood is never count the number of hours you slept. It will just make you tired! When that alarm goes off or the early riser wakes you, get your feet on the floor as quickly as you can because your day has started whether you like it or not! I am certainly checking out the caffeine eye roll on, sounds magic!

      I love the sentence Sal:

“When that alarm goes off or the early riser wakes you, get your feet on the floor as quickly as you can because your day has started whether you like it or not”

This is so true. No point moaning about it, just get on with it ;)

Unlike you,I’m one of those people that needs a lot of sleep, so I have to confess to having the occasional “Nanna Nap” to get me through the day!! I used to nap while breastfeeding, then while the kids had their afternoon nap, and I have even been known to have a little lie down on the couch while the kids are watching TV!! While my work hours have changed now, when I was doing 9 – 5pm I always made sure I had some meals in the freezer as the commute and childcare pickup always made me too frazzled to contemplate cooking!

Don’t get me wrong Anne, I too love a nanna nap ;) I just wish I could cut them out and have the full night’s sleep lol
